Where to Obtain an Applied Mathematics Degree

There are several top schools around the country that have great programs in Applied Mathematics, and related degree programs.  NYU at the Courant Institute has a top Mathematics program, with undergraduate studies in addition to M.S. and Ph.D programs.  Some other top schools in Applied Mathematics are Purdue University, Johns Hopkins University, Northwestern, and Marist.

Career Opportunities for Applied Mathematics Majors

A career goal for students enrolled in an Applied Mathematics program is to become an Applied Mathematician.  According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, applied mathematicians use techniques to help solve problems in business, engineering, and government.  A Ph.D. degree is usually considered minimum when working as a mathematician, and for those who are at that education level, employment of mathematicians is expected to increase 22% during the 2008-2018 decade.  Competition will be intense, but with the right training, the outlook will be great.
