How does a smartphone make college easier?

You might not be aware that you have a classroom in your pocket.  But if you have an iPad, Smartphone, Blackberry or other communication device with Internet access you can enroll in and complete college and university courses whether you’re commuting to and from work on a train, traveling in an automobile as a passenger with a friend or family member, dining at a restaurant, at home or at another location.

Generally, all you need is a WiFi connection that allows you to connect to the Internet wirelessly.  Think about it.  There are no cords to untangle or plug in and no heavy pieces of computer equipment to lug around.  All you have to do is make sure your handheld computer device’s battery is charged before you head out for the day.  If you’re a working parent these electronic tools can save you valuable time, making it easier for you to juggle caring for your children, strengthening your marriage and completing assignments at work that position you for promotions and salary increases.

Some leading handheld electronic devices are:

  • Blackberry
  • Apple iPhone
  • Apple iPad
  • Samsung Gravity Smartphone
  • Motorola Droid
  • Motorola Flipside
  • Personal digital assistants (PDAs)
  • Palm Station

What College and University Students Look for in Handheld Communication Devices

Make sure that your electronic handheld device has enough storage space (e.g. hard drive space, RAM) to meet your personal and classroom needs.  Also look for handheld devices that have fast processors so you can work on a variety of tasks simultaneously, saving you valuable time.  Good handheld electronic devices don’t freeze up when you use them, making them take a long time to upload, download or email documents and files.  They also have a strong battery life, making it easy for you to complete classroom assignments while you’re away from home.

Smartphones, cell phones and PDAs that link to laptops and desktop computers can be used to download large files onto.  It’s almost like having a wallet computer or a classroom in your pocket.  The sooner you start creating, editing and sending classroom work to your professors using the handheld devices, the more you remain on the cutting edge of technology, a field that’s growing at record speed.  In fact, don’t be surprised if one day secondary schools are conducting most of their classes electronically.  What you gain from using your electronic devices to excel academically today might well become the norm tomorrow, putting you out front.

Online and offline retailers sell popular electronic devices for $40 and up, with some of the devices costing several hundred dollars.  Whatever handheld device you choose, make sure you get warranty coverage on it in case you accidentally drop it or spill liquids on it while you’re commuting to and from school.
