Attending an accredited college or university at night adds responsibilities and deadlines to your personal schedule that can find you working and studying all the time, if you let it.  However, this strategy has drawbacks.  If you fill your days with only work and school as you pursue your adult continuing education goals you could experience burn out after several weeks or months.  You don’t have to do this.  Instead you can keep your days free of college or university responsibilities and work on school courses solely at night.

Regardless of the country’s economic climate, working a full-time job and caring for a family requires a bit of juggling.  It’s easy to cram your days with commuting to and from work and to and from your children’s daycare center, if you’re raising toddlers and infants.  Of course, you’re also probably trying to find enough time to exercise and stay fit and sit down and enjoy a delicious meal every now and then.  The fact that you’re registered for night classes at an online or offline accredited college or university might have a few of your family members wondering if you’re going to tip the life/balance scales. 

Focus on College or University Assignments at Certain Times

If you limit the time you spend completing school assignments to the evening, rather than trying to sneak in time to study for examinations, conduct school research projects and type up your latest term paper during the day, you can focus on work and feel less strained while you do so.  Your employer will likely appreciate your dedication on the job, something that just might earn you a promotion or salary increase. 

After you tell your supervisor or employer that you’re taking night classes to expand your knowledge base and advance your education, she or he might allow you to leave early on Fridays so you can go home or drive to campus and complete school assignments, giving you the opportunity to arrive home earlier than usual.

Getting Work, Life and Adult Continuing Education Balance

Set aside a certain amount of time each night that you will focus on school.  For example, you could type school papers from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. and you can study from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  As ideas arise in your mind on steps you can take to complete your school work quicker, jot them down.  Try out a few of the ideas and measure the results.  After all, you know what fits your personal style best. 

To ensure that you get adequate amounts of sleep at night, set a time when you’re going to stop focusing on school and relax each evening.  Try to sit down and relax for at least an hour before you go to bed.  For example, you could take a shower or bubble bath and watch a funny television sitcom before you head for bed or you could curl up with a good book.  Doing so will help you to feel invigorated and ready for the coming day, giving you the energy to excel at work, home and school.
